Kellita asked Sarouk, pouring fruit juice into two glasses one-handed. The other hand was taken up with holding T'Vall in the crook of her arm. "About the Luau I mean? I think it's a great idea, and I'd really like to go! We could take T'Vall with us. It's almost like an omen," she continued happily. "This is my first day back on duty, even if it is only part time. And T'Vall has been spending time in the crčche already so she's happy there. And now a party!" "If you wish to attend the luau, you are free to do so of course, but I fail to see how my presence at an emotional gathering would be beneficial." "If you wish to attend the luau, you are free to do so of course, but I fail to see how my presence at an emotional gathering would be beneficial." Kellita smiled. "I did say 'almost', my husband. And I didn't mean it *was* an omen, I just meant - oh, it's serendipity, I suppose. Something nice happening for a change, instead of battles and plagues and... and everything!" She ate a spoonful of the yoghurt and muesli she had in her bowl before continuing, "I will go, because I will enjoy it. And I'll take T'Vall, she will enjoy all the colours and the sounds, it will be most stimulating for her." She shot her husband a twinkling glance from under her lashes as she said it. "And your presence, my dear, will be most beneficial for both me and T'Vall. We both appreciate your company, you know? Please?" Sarouk didn't look up at his wife's words, though he was sure she would know the effect they had on him through their link. His facial expression never changed or even twitched. He deactivated the PADD he'd been reading and took another bite of his breakfast before looking up at his wife. "Very well," He said simply, "Barring any unforeseen developments that might require my attention, I will accompany you to the luau." ~Like I could say no when you ask like that.~ He thought as he turned his attention back to his breakfast. In that time span the two of them hadn't spent more than 1 hour together out side of duty time. This morning was different. Calvin and Elizabeth had both agreed to have breakfast. Calvin was already finished dressing, but he still needed to set up his dining room for the small meal. He stepped into the kitchen, and walked over to the replicator. "Computer access my personal menu. This morning create a egg, hashbrown and pancake breakfast for two." The replictor buzzed and seconds later a full meal was ready to be set. Calvin took the two plates out with the food already on them and walked them over to table and placed them on opposite sides of each other. He walked back and forth from the replictor to the table untill all items need to have breakfast were placed appropriately on the table. The door chime beeped. "Enter." The doors opened and Elizabeth stepped in. Calvin walked out of the dinning room and met her in the entrance area of his living quarters. "Hello Elizabeth. How are you?" "Probably the same way you feel." She stepped in further. "I prepared breakfast. Please join me?" Calvin turned and begin to walk to the table. "I know," she said loudly to stop the Lt Cmdr from walking away, "I said that I would have breakfast, but I changed my mind. I want to get this over with." "Ok. Would you like to sit down?" "No. I will stand here. It is obvious that we are over." "Yes." "I think that is all I have to say." Elizabeth stopped talking and turned. Calvin moved forward, "Elizaeth. It is over, but I am happy that we had the chance to be together. I just want to make sure that we both have closure. Good bye Elizabeth." "Good bye Lt Cmdr Capps." Not only was she glad to be getting back to work, even if only part time at the moment, but the prospect of a party thrilled her to bits, and she intended to get as many people to come along as possible. Second on her list was her boss. Someone who in Kellita's opinion could do with some serious downtime. Not that she really knew Dr Nissa Whetari that well, since she had arrived when Kellita was on maternity leave, but to Kellita anyone who had the stresses of a whole department on her shoulders definitely needed some relaxation. She tapped on the door to the CMO's office and waited for permission to enter. (posted by Liz) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin – Sickbay - Ensign SG CMO Nissa Whetari - 10:02) After spending some time checking in on Doctor Keller and Nurse Florence, Nissa spoke with some of her nurses and looked over reports. Pacing around her office, Nissa was attempting to work out a diagnosis that was confusing some of the nurses. Scans had revealed very little, and none of the tests that they had run brought any conclusive results. She stopped with a sharp jerk when she realized that someone was at the door. “Enter.” Nissa said as she took a seat and sipped her tea. The woman that walked in wasn’t immediately familiar, but the slightly embarrassed look on Nissa’s face must have communicated that. “Yes?” (posted by Sarah) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin – Sickbay - Medical Officer Dr Kellita Weir - 10:03) On receiving permission to enter, Kellita did so, and saw an attractive woman with auburn hair sitting at the desk. She knew this had to be the new CMO, from the descriptions she'd been given of the Aldean by the nurses when she'd brought T'Vall for her check-ups. “Yes?” Dr Whetari said, her face betraying that she had no idea who Kellita was. "Good morning, Dr Whetari. I'm one of your medical officers, Dr Kellita Weir? We haven't met before, I've been on maternity leave but today is supposed to be my first day back part time," Kellita said, sensing that this was a slightly awkward situation. "If this isn't a good time for you I can just busy myself in Sick Bay until you're free?" she added, "But I thought I should pop in and introduce myself and see if you had anything specific in mind you'd like me to do?" Kell smiled. "My speciality is paediatrics but I'm also qualified as a general practitioner, if that helps any?" (posted by Liz) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin – Sickbay, CMO’s Office – Ensign SG CMO Nissa Whetari – 1005) "Good morning, Dr Whetari. I'm one of your medical officers, Dr Kellita Weir? We haven't met before, I've been on maternity leave but today is supposed to be my first day back part time…" The petite blond woman let her voice trail off, seemingly detecting that Nissa wasn’t expecting her. "If this isn't a good time for you I can just busy myself in Sick Bay until you're free?" Dr. Weir added, "But I thought I should pop in and introduce myself and see if you had anything specific in mind you'd like me to do? My specialty is paediatrics but I'm also qualified as a general practitioner, if that helps any?" With a calm smile, Nissa stood up and put her hand out in welcome to her new colleague. “Welcome back, Dr. Weir. I apologize for being a bit out of sorts; I wasn’t really expecting anyone and had been trying to talk out a complicated case to myself.” She explained, grabbing one of the PADDs off of her desk and holding it out for Dr. Weir. “If you would like to jump right back in, the patient in question is actually a teenager. I was going to see the patient now, if you would like to take a look with me.” (posted by Sarah) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin – Sickbay, CMO’s Office – Medical Officer Dr Kellita Weir – 1006) With a calm smile, Dr Whetari stood up and put her hand out in welcome to Kellita. “Welcome back, Dr. Weir. I apologize for being a bit out of sorts; I wasn’t really expecting anyone and had been trying to talk out a complicated case to myself.” She explained, grabbing one of the PADDs off of her desk and holding it out to Kell. “If you would like to jump right back in, the patient in question is actually a teenager. I was going to see the patient now, if you would like to take a look with me.” "I'd be happy to," Kellita replied, smiling back at her boss. "But please, I'd rather you called me Kellita than Dr Weir. At least whilst we're not in front of the patients," she grinned. "So, what's the story so far?" The CMO outlined the case and then together the two women left the office and approached the biobed where a teenage human girl sat, looking pale and tired. Kellita smiled at the girl. "Hello, Gilda. I'm Dr Weir, and Dr Whetari and I are going to see what we can do to make you feel better, OK? Now I know you've told the nurses how you're feeling, but I'd like you to tell us too. It helps if we can hear it direct from you, you know?" Gilda shrugged. "I'm tired all the time," she said. "And I feel sick a lot too. I don't feel like eating much either." "No," Kell said sympathetically. "I wouldn't either if I felt sick all the time. How long has this been going on?" "Ummm, about two or three weeks I think." "And how old are you?" "Sixteen." "And...." Kellita paused, looking down at the PADD Dr Whetari had given her, "I see the nurses already asked all the usual questions." She put the PADD down. "But I have to ask them again anyway. Do you have a boyfriend?" Gilda rolled her eyes. "No." "And there's not the slightest chance you might be pregnant?" "No." "Sorry, but I had to ask. Now just lie down on the biobed and we'll take a look at your readings." The girl did as she asked, and Kell and Dr Whetari looked at the biosigns. They were mostly within normal parameters, except for some of the liver functions, which showed one of the enzymes to be three times the norm. Kell frowned. With the liver functioning normally otherwise, she was a little puzzled to think what the problem might be. She could see why even the CMO wasn't sure what it was. "Are you sure you haven't had any other symptoms?" she asked. "Something maybe that doesn't seem connected?" "No," Gilda said. " Well... no, nothing really." Kellita didn't pursue that for the moment, but instead said, "Ok." Apparently changing the subject whilst seeming to check something on the display, she added casually, "Did you go to the school's New Year Party?" Gilda smiled. "Oh yeah, it was great!" Kell grinned. "And a pretty girl like you, I bet you had lots of partners." Gilda smiled shyly. "I had a few, yes." "And a few kisses under the mistletoe, I bet!" The girl blushed but grinned. "Yeah." "Good. And you said you didn't feel ill or anything afterwards? Nothing out of the ordinary?" "I don't think so, at least... it's probably nothing." "At least...?" Kellita prompted. "A week or so after the New Year party, I had a bit of a sore throat. Nothing much, it went in a couple of days so I didn't bother. But that was a bit before I started to feel like this, so I don't think its got anything to do with it." "I see," Kell made a note on the PADD. "Well, I want to do some blood tests, so we can check out some of the ideas we have as to what might be causing it. I'll get one of the nurses to come and take the bloods and in the meantime, you should get some rest. We'll be back later, once we have your results, OK?" Gilda sighed. "OK." "See you later then, and don't worry. We'll get you sorted!" Kellita said then walked away with Dr Whetari. "I don't know," she said to the CMO, rolling her eyes. "Why do all the patients think they know what's relevant and what's not when it comes to symptoms? I'll have to look it up but I think it could mononucleosis. What do you think?" In her hands she clutched the PADD on which was written her report about the contacts with the alien race and some conclusions she had drawn. Aya was still a little in awe of Captain Straton when giving reports, but that wasn't the only reason for her nervousness now. There was something she intended to ask the Captain, and she wasn't too sure what the response would be. (posted by Liz) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin – Sickbay, CMO’s Office – Ensign SG CMO Nissa Whetari – 1018) Nissa watched attentively as Doctor Weir spoke to Gilda, her young patient. As Nissa had observed in many adolescents during her training and subsequent work, the young woman was a tad hesitant to completely divulge relevant details. She also seem to think that she knew exactly what the medical stuff needed to be aware of, and no more. Hiding a slight smile that had popped onto her face when she remembered a certain incident with her family when she was a young woman, Nissa gave Gilda a friendly nod as she and Doctor Weir walked away. After they had got a certain distance from the young woman, Dr. Weir turned to Nissa. "I don't know," she said with a roll of her eyes, "Why do all the patients think they know what's relevant and what's not when it comes to symptoms? I'll have to look it up but I think it could mononucleosis. What do you think?" “I read not too long ago that a strain of mononucleosis mutated into a difficult to treat and stronger illness. Her symptoms do match the diagnosis and it is not unheard of for teenagers to contract the disease. Very good idea, Doctor.” Nissa said, agreeing with Doctor Weir and smiling at the woman. “As for patients always thinking that they know what is relevant and what isn’t…I think that it may frighten them less, when they are ill, to think that they have a handle on what is happening. They start to rationalize what is wrong with them long before they even see us, so by the time we ask them questions, they think the know what is important and what isn’t. I guess.” Nissa added and then stopped with an unwelcome yawn, not certain if Doctor Weir wanted a response or if it had been a rhetorical question. “Sorry about that, it has been a long few days.” (posted by Sarah) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin, Ready Room, CO Captain Eva Straton, 1018) "Good morning, Captain," Lt. "I guess that's why I prefer dealing with small kids, they're too young to hide stuff they don't think is relevant. The parents try to, though," she added with a grin. She took a closer look at the CMO. "You do look tired, " she said. "A bit stressed too?" (reply Whetari) Kell put on a mock-serious face. "Then assuming you are *not* concealing anything from your doctor," she joked, "my prescription is two-fold. She said, placing the PADD down and turning and fully facing the Counselor. "It's been my experience that I tend to kill parties not be the life of them. I understand the importance of down time for the crew, it's crucial for their emotional well-being. However, people have a tendency of remaining on their best behavior when they know I'm around, that's not exactly conducive to good party. They need to be able to loosen up and unwind without fear of me calling them out if they are a little rambunctious, so I tend to limit my appearances at such things." She leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms over her chest her eyes never leaving the Counselor. "If you feel that my attendance will have a positive impact on crew moral, then I shall, of course, defer to your professional opinion on the matter. You will also be attending then?" "If you feel that my attendance will have a positive impact on crew moral, then I shall, of course, defer to your professional opinion on the matter. You will also be attending then?" Aya took a deep breath. "Yes, Captain, indeed I will." Then burning her boats with a recklessness she didn't often experience, Aya continued. "You mentioned my professional opinion, ma'am. Well, here it is. In the short time I've been aboard I've noticed that a lot of the crew - including at least some of your senior officers - feel remote from you. That is not a good thing, they need to feel that there is a - a connection, between their Captain and themselves. At the moment we have too many conflicts, too many times when death is on the line. It's not good for the crew only to see you at memorial services and on the Bridge. That enforces a remoteness that will eventually sap their will to fight. Everyone on the ship respects your rank, Captain, but they should also respect you for the person you are. And that is hard for them to do when you are effectively in an ivory tower. I'm not suggesting that you encourage a false sense of intimacy but by making an appearance tonight you will be showing them that you feel yourself to be as much a part of the ship and the crew as they are. You don't have to stay all night," she added, "But longer than a token appearance. And, if I may suggest, ma'am, *not* in uniform. This is an occasion where rank and duty are not paramount - they're suspended even, for one evening. And if some of the crew feel that whilst you are there they have to be on their best behaviour," Aya allowed herself to smile a little, "then in my experience of some ships' parties, that won't necessarily be a bad thing!" (posted by Liz) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin – Sickbay, CMO’s Office – Ensign SG CMO Nissa Whetari - 1021) After Dr. Weir inquired about her stress level, Nissa heaved a small sigh and a half-hearted nod later, responding. “I suppose I have been under a bit of stress lately.” Dr. Weir gave Nissa a serious face, though Nissa believed that the look was in jest. "Then assuming you are *not* concealing anything from your doctor," she joked, "my prescription is two-fold. As for the second, I will have to consider it. If you could contact me when you are planning to attend the party, I will let you know if I can meet you on the holodeck?” (posted by Sarah) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin, Ready Room, CO Captain Eva Straton, 1021) Through years of training, Eva managed to keep her facial expression from changing as she listened to the counselors words. ~How many people have you ordered to their deaths Lieutenant? Whether she liked it or not, the Counselor had a point, one that she would have to work on. ~I wish this damn war was over!~ She thought. "I said I would be there," She said finally, leaning forward and placing her hands on her desk in front of her, finger interlaced. "And I will be, not in uniform. The replicator in his quarters whirred to life produce a fizzing glass of carbonated liquid. With a grunt, the ensign rolled off the side of his bed and lumbered over to the replicator to retrieve his drink. "Ahhhh," sighed Adams after taking a couple of big drinks. He set the drink down on his desk and once again addressed the computer. "Computer. Start recording personal log." "Personal Log. Ensign JG Christopher Adams. Stardate 2407.01.29. "The repairs on the Sunda are complete. Two solid days of working with the Aiglos engineers determining what went wrong with their drive system. It turned out that the clear box that I repaired in their communication circuits was their Universal Translator. With that repaired, it was much easier to work with the other aliens in figuring out what was wrong. I downloaded their linguistic matrix into my tricorder and was able to translate all of their computer's readouts with ease. "Once we figured out the problem with the engine, it was just a matter of coordinating the repair list between their engineers and the team I brought aboard from the Paladin. I got the tasks assigned and then just followed up while the crews worked together to fix the Sunda. The final system was repaired just thirty minutes ago and I'm ready to hit the rack. I've got to pick up my regular duty shift, in charge of Gamma Shift in Engineering at 0100 hours. No rest for the weary. Computer. End personal log." Adams reached over to his glass of root beer and downed the rest of it in a few gulps. The ice clinked at the base once he righted the glass. He placed it back in the replicator and hit the button which returned the glass back to the atoms from where it came. With a yawn, Adams stripped off his uniform and pull down the covers on his bed. (posted by Edward) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin - Holodeck 3 - CSO Lieutenant (jg) Joran Matthew Brownlee and ACONN Ensign (jg) Christian Soval Brownlee - 17:34) Joran came down the hall, wearing a typical Hawaiian loud shirt, khaki shorts, flip-flops, and sunglasses. Slung over his shoulder was a towel, as he was wearing a bathing suit underneath, just in case there was a chance for swimming. As he approached the holodeck, he saw his brother Christian approaching, dressed much the same. They reached the holodeck at roughly the same time, and ackowledged each other. Christian couldn't help but chuckle at his brother. "You look like a bad 21st century tourist!" Joran smirked at that. "Well, doesn't it seem that all you're missing is a little zinc oxide on your nose?" Both men started laughing hysterically at that, and Joran pushed the entrance button on the door. The two of them walked in, and saw the only other person there was Ensign Trei." "Hey," said Joran, "how's the party going?" "Any place to swim?" Christian asked. He didn't know them but he would talk with them throughout the party to get better acquainted. After they were properly greeted with Leis, Detron walked over to welcome them to the Luau. They introduced themselves as CSO Lt(jg) Jordan Brownless and his brother ACON Ensign(jg) Christian Brownlee. Jordan said, "How's the party going? Will there be some swimming?" "Unfortunately no. The fire pit and decoration is for show. There will be a Limbo Contest later so be ready for that. Have a seat and sample some appetizers. Mai Tais are available at the Tiki Bar. Dinner will be ready at 18.30. Enjoy the party." ~I hope more people come to the Luau. A party of 3 just won't cut it. I am glad they dressed the part.~ (posted by Edward) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin - Holodeck 3 - FO Lt Cmdr Calvin - 1800) The large holodeck doors opened for Calvin when he tapped the entrance button on the operating panel. He stepped a few feet into the program, and immediately two women approached him. They had necklace type items with them made out of flowers. "Thank you," Calvin said to them, but he really wasn't sure what they were, and what their purpose was. Looking around he noticed there were also a number of other events happening. There were men spitting fire, and another one juggling sticks of fire. There were pits of fire, and what looked like some sort of food being cooked. He smiled as he saw Detron, and walked toward him. The First Officer had only heard of a Luau, but has never attended one. Living on a research facility with a number of scientist and no other kids limited his imagination and the parties that were held. Before he arrived at the Luau he accessed the computer, and asked it to replicate appropriate clothing attire for a Luau. It replicated light brown shorts, an extra large red shirt with white flower patterns, a hat, and sandals. Standing inside of the Luau Calvin knew that his clothing fit the others, but he still felt silly in the attire. He reached Detron, and smiled. He was trying his hardest not to let his recent breakup with Elizabeth ruin his fun. "Good evening. How are you?" (reply Detron) "I have never been to a Luau, but it seems you were very detailed in creating this program who did you buy somewhere?" DEtron noticed the confusion of CMDR Capps's face as if he never saw a Luau before. He greeted Capps and diected him to a seat to his right. Capps declined the seat. Detron explained all he knew about Luaus and what to expect. Detron assured that the fire dancers and decorations were all for show. The Limbo Pole was real and will be used later in the party. "Help yourself to some appitizers. Dinner will be served at 18.30. Enjoy the party." Detron was glad Capps came. He hoped Capps would loosen up and let the party atmosphere take over. That remained to be seen. Dinner will be served at 18.30. Enjoy the party." Trei said. "Thank you, and I plan on it. I'll see you around." Calvin said as a bye. He looked around and some more people. He wondered how many more people would come. And in the back of his mind he wondered if Elizabeth would come. He caught himself looking for her often through out the night. The First Officer made his way over to the bar. "Let me have a Bolian Tea." "Bolian Tea? We don't have that. What we have are Mai Tai's," the bartender said. "I don't know what that is, but go ahead and fix me one." A minute later the bartender placed a drilled out coconut with a liquid substance, and a blue umbrella inside. "Thanks." Calvin walked away from the bar sipping on the drink. As he walked he met up with Joran. "Joran. How are you doing tonight?" (reply Joran) "Have you ever been to a luau before?" Her long red hair, normally pulled back into a tight pony tail while on duty, hung freely down over her shoulders and back. A lose fitting short sleeve shirt, a pair of shorts, and sandals completed her outfit. She quickly recognized several members of the senior staff present at the party as well as several junior officers. ~Looks like it's turning out to be a fairly large party.~ She thought just as the holodeck doors opened behind her and another group of junior officers came on to the holodeck dressed for the luau. Eva stepped out of the way allowing the junior officers to enter the holodeck. After a moment she made her way up to the bar and got a drink and some appetizers. "Mr. Trei," She said, nodding at the Ensign as she turned and watched the fire dancers while sipping her drink and nibbling at the appetizers. She looked beautiful with her flowing red hair. She ordered some tea from the bar but was directed to a Mai Tai instead. As she sipped her drink, she seemed to relax. Detron greeted her at the bar. "Welcome Captain Straton. Glad to see you here. The crew will be delighted to have you here relaxing with us. Dinner will be served at 18.30. A Limbo contest will take place later. I hope to see you try." ~Captain Straton and CO Capps are here. Now let the games begin.~ (posted by Edward) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin - Holodeck 3 - Menelian, 1825) Menelian walked into the turbolift, knowing what he'd walk into and fearing it, and found that his worst nightmares had come true. Human's gone wild, willingly subjecting themselves to heat and sand. He'd had enough heat, and sand, and sweat, to last him a lifetime on his home Planet... the Planet of so-called galactic Peace. He'd grown up in a field of smoking holes, with a sun beating down on him from the time he walked out until sundown. And he still didn't understand the kinds of frivolity that humans engaged in... that they lived for, most times. And not just humans, but so many of the humanoids in the Federation. And from the look of things, his battle-hardened Captain wasn't an exception; she was dressed just as outrageously as the rest... if not showing as much skin as some chose. He stepped to the side so others could walk in and crossed his arms behind him, and tried schooling his face into indifference (though a small smirk did form on his lips, unconsciously) as he watched several under-officers attempting to put up a net off to the side while a couple others started marking off corners of what would undoubtedly be some sort of game in the hot sand. The Romulan looked up at the simulated sun with distaste, then back down. He was already starting to sweat in his duty uniform, an altered jumpsuit that doubled as his flight-suit. He was used to hot temperatures, his race had evolved in hot climates, but that didn't mean he enjoyed the sun beating down on his head. He liked it warmer then most, but that was about it. Menelian pushed forward, ignoring a waiter who offered him a drink from a stand which held several in all shapes and sizes, and walked up to the Captain. "Captain." He said, as neutrally as he could. His Federation counterpart, someone by the name of Trei, said that there would be a luau going on here that night. He didn't know the word "luau," but from the way people were referring to it, it sounded like some form of celebration. He decided to give in to his curiosity and find out just what a luau was. He came in, and noticed that he was the only one wearing his uniform still. Rather than look silly, he told the computer to create appropriate clothing for him. Once he had changed, he went over to where Trei was standing. "Hello, Trei. How are you this evening?" Megildur asked, stumbling a bit over the words. (posted by Spencer) ======================================================================================================================== (USS Paladin - Holodeck 3 - ACTO Ensign(jg) Detron Trei - 18.27) Detron was approached by a security officer unknown to him. He looked out of place in the Luau setting. He greeted Detron, "How are you doing/" " I am fime. How are you doing? Dinner will start any minute now so take a seat and order a drink. I would suggest a Mai Tai. Sit back and enjoy the party." Detron was glad the party was filling up. He saw the Brownlees mark off some sand for beach Volleyball. He cautioned them to be careful with spacing. He told them dinner will start any minute and Limbo will take place latertake it easy. They nodded in agreement. Detron went back to the bar.
